Contemporary Artist

Michael Hegeman is a contemporary artist whose practice is centred on intaglio printmaking.

He creates intaglio prints combining etching with multi-plate monoprint processes. Each work is built through successive layers of ink and multiple printing stages, resulting in one-of-a-kind works defined by controlled variation within the printmaking process.

Etched plates are registered, inked, and passed through the press, each performing a distinct structural role within the final composition. Rather than being directly composed, each image emerges through the interaction of these interdependent plates.

The work explores form, surface, and spatial relationships through structured compositions and layered textures. These visual systems evoke geological formations, weathered surfaces, and archaeological traces while remaining open to interpretation.

Grounded in continuity of method, Hegeman’s practice forms a coherent body of work in which each piece contributes to an ongoing sequence of interdependent plates, generating materially distinct outcomes within a consistent visual language.
